Please do not use the USB adapter and the retractable cable together. The retractable cable that comes with due to its light weight and portable design, it is designed as the extension usb cord to work with low power consume devices (ex. mouse, keyboard, usb light...), the retractable cable will not be able to combine with USB adapters to work with digital camera, camcorder or other high power consume devices. If you need to use the adapter to work with those devices, you can either directly plug the adapter between computer USB port and your device (ex. camera, comcorder) or attach the adapter into a regular standard USB extension cable.

They are light weight adaptors, the 1394 firewire adaptor won't be able to support firewire external drives (burner or external storage drive) which needs much more power. But it can support firewire port with digital cameras or other lighter devices. And they don't have enough power to work with usb external drives either.
